This tool is customized to your specifications and requirements. getPlus® CPM Creator© Programs are available as GUI and command-line tools. Your company can use the getPlus® CPM Creator© Program to generate your specific download and upload manager as a browser plug-in and/or executable version.

The Creator© tool will be customized to integrate with your company's current architecture to accept content update packages for GUI as well as secure links for distributed programs. getPlus CPM will only communicate your company's specified URLs over HTTPs. What is the difference between getPlus® and getPlus® CPM?

A: getPlus® is the world’s smallest and most secure, multi-functional download manager. Once file transfers are completed getPlus® is completely removed from a users computer. getPlus® CPM utilizes getPlus® advanced file transfer technology and stays as 150kB resident on the host computer. This compact and secure plug-in provides our customers with the ability to offer silent and active transfers. Furthermore the GUI can be dynamically updated via RSS feeds to display any HTML based content.

Another important difference between these two products is that getPlus® CPM also has a built-in updater functionality that can provide silent, scheduled and forced updates enabling our customers to easily maintain their software through a centralized, resident program.

How can I update content on the GUI?

A: Content can be dynamically upgraded onto the GUI via RSS feeds or any other HTML supportable coding methodology.

How can I setup updates?

A: Create a short XML file stating the program versions that should be updated and place them on your server. This location can either be selected via getPlus® CPM Creator©, or manually with the command line tool. The getPlus® CPM plug-in will read this file and send the appropriate updates to users based on their update preferences.

Do I need to change the surrounding hardware or software?

A: No, getPlus® CPM will integrate within your current software architecture and accurately deliver files to your clients regardless of their OS, proxy or firewall settings.

Can I specify any local destination for the getPlus® CPM plug-in?

A: Yes, this can be easily selected via the getPlus® CPM Creator© or command line tools.

Will I have to maintain getPlus® CPM?

A: No, as the plug-in is delivered refreshed with every download, maintenance on the end user machines is not necessary.

How does an example checksum file look like?

A: The checksum file is a single text file that is transferred from your server to the getPlus® CPM plug-in and it contains the parameters to manage your downloads. Mandatory information in the checksum file includes:
-product name (parameter: “prodname”)
-checksum (“checksum”)
- file size (“diskspace”)
- URL of the file to be downloaded (“object_url”)

The possibilities to handle your downloads with the checksum file are unlimited. You can define in the checksum file if the download should be executed after the download (“execute=1”). You can trigger to show the download destination with the “showdest” parameter, open a folder to show the download destination (“showdest”), you can define download conditions and dependencies with the “required” and “dependson” parameters or send a sign-off/proof of delivery to a specified URL after successful download (“signoff_url”). Using the checksum file, you can also bundle software and offer additional or third party products for download or check for installed products.

The above list is an abstract of the most common parameters used by our customers. Our average customers use approximately 30 parameters to handle each download. A comprehensive list of all parameters is available with the delivery of the getPlus® CPM tools.

The tools can be further customized to integrate any additional requirements.

How do I manage update files?

A: The process is the same for the initial file and the update file. You create checksum files for both and with the checksum file you have 100% control over your downloads.

What is a “scheduled update request”?

A: A “scheduled update request” is an automated request that is sent from the getPlus® CPM to your server. Depending on the parameters that you have set in the getPlus® CPM, the client checks for available updates on a scheduled basis (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly etc). The scheduled update request is sent from the getPlus® CPM to a specified Update_URL on your server. Your users can also set the update check frequency in the preferences tab on the getPlus® CPM GUI.

From your server side, you can override the user’s setting at any time, e.g. if you wish to publish a security update that is outside the regular update schedule.

How does the CPM get the list of products for which the “check for update” action should be performed?

A: Based on the products that are installed on end user side, getPlus® CPM pings your server and sends a request that contains information on the products already installed on the client machine. Your server returns a so called “checksum file” for each product that individually defines the product and what should be done with it.

The “checksum file” is a file that you create (and place on your server) which contains unique product information such as product name, checksum, file size and download location on the server. In this checksum file you also set parameters that determine how to handle the file (e.g. execution after the download, dependencies on other products etc.) and in this checksum file you also define if getPlus® CPM should check for a newer version of this product on a scheduled basis (as described above). With the checksum file, you can define almost everything related to the management and control of the download file.

getPlus® CPM can therefore pull updates based on the information in the checksum file or you can use getPlus® CPM to push updates to your clients. In the later case, your server would send a request to getPlus® CPM to see if a particular product version or update is already installed and if not, offer this new version to your customers.

Is it possible to send customer information to the server? If yes – how?

Yes, getPlus® CPM can collect customer information and send it back to a specified sign-off URL located on your server. The sign-off URL is specified in the checksum file. Example information that can be collected include a unique user ID, running time, installed OS and browser used for download.

What kind of database is required to provide updates?

A: getPlus® CPM can communicate with any server-side database or any PHP script. There are no specific requirements in regards to the database.

What kind of information should be in this database?

A: Whatever you like – most likely the appropriate reply to the request that getPlus® CPM sends.
Example: getPlus® CPM sends a request to the server that 4 specific products are installed on the user’s machine. The reply from the server/database could contain information in regards to whether or not a new version or complimentary product to any of these 4 products is available and if so, getPlus® CPM would automatically offer it to the customer for download(or download in the background if parameters define download/installation in the background).

Can we send messages to customers using the CPM (info about new products for example)?

A: Yes, getPlus® CPM comes with a “market place” tab where you can send messages directly to your customers. You can use the tool to directly target and notify your customers. getPlus® CPM remains on the user’s system tray after the initial download and from the “Market Place” tab in the system tray you can communicate with your users, e.g. provide information about new products, promote upcoming releases, display additional products etc.

Can we specify the behavior for updates – install automatically or not, update importance (critical or not), downloads only, etc?

A: Yes, you can manage the entire update behavior with the getPlus® CPM. For example, updates can be installed in the background, you can set dependencies (e.g. only install update if product version xy is installed), define to download the update without automatic installation, and define update priorities/importance by setting a specific flag.

What kind of statistics can be collected (e.g. number of customers, OS type etc)?

A: You can collect all kinds of information – as long as it complies with legal requirements. Example information that you could collect with getPlus® CPM includes download numbers, OS, browser, running/download time, download completion. Depending on your requirements, additional information can be collected. getPlus® CPM can collect and send the information to a specified URL or database. Alternatively, NOS Microsystems also provides a back-end solution to display the collected information in detailed marketing reports. Please note that additional fees apply for a back-end solution.

What actions are required to integrate the CPM with our base installation (InstallShield as tool)?

A: Our tools are fully compatible and independent from any other tool, such as InstallShield. You can continue using InstallShield to build your products. NOS Microsystems solutions would then be used to size-optimize the build that you have created (with our iNOSSO® solution) and distribute your products digitally to your customers (with our getPlus® CPM solution).
